The charm of the red-tile old-fashioned house welcome plate coloring experience
The experience of coloring a wooden welcome plate in the motif of a traditional Okinawan red-tile old minka is a simple but fun activity that stimulates the imagination. You can paint the roof, walls, and pillars in your favorite colors to create your own colorful old house. There are endless ways to have fun, such as using your guess color or recreating the "red tile color" that is typical of Okinawa! The finished plate will be a perfect piece to display at your entrance or in your room. I chose blue because I am a fan of Arashi's Ohno-kun!
Careful support by craftsmen makes even beginners feel at ease.
The person who will guide you through the experience is Kiyoko, a craftsman at mokumo. She will carefully teach you how to apply the paint, so even beginners can feel comfortable. You will learn how to apply colors that bring out the texture of the wood and how to make it shiny, as well as other techniques that only a professional can do.
The original shisa and doucai (stone daredevil) add to the Okinawan flavor!
The welcome plate comes with a set of handmade miniature Shisa and Ishikagutai (stone daring). Adhering them to the place of your choice adds even more originality. It is fun to think about their placement on the roof or on the pillars of the entrance. The cute shisa and doucai add an Okinawan touch to the work!
Experience Flow and Access Information
The experience is by reservation only, and reservations can be easily made through "Jalan" or mokumo's Instagram DM. Located in the center of Onna Village, mokumo is easily accessible, right in front of HIYORI Ocean Resort Okinawa, making it a convenient stopover during a road trip.
The charm of mokumo that I felt when I visited
The design of the red-tile old house was really cute and I was excited just to paint the colors! It was easy and enjoyable, and we all had a great time talking with the artisan, Kiyoko... Kiyoko is a very kind lady with a beautiful smile! I'm decorating my house ♡♡♡♡
