Painting a wooden welcome sign modeled after a traditional Okinawan old house with red tiles is a simple yet fun activity that sparks your imagination. Your guide for this hands-on experience is Kiyoko, a craftswoman from mokumo. She’ll patiently teach you the tricks of the trade, even if it’s your first time, so beginners needn’t worry. You’ll work while learning professional techniques—such as how to apply color to bring out the natural grain of the wood and how to create a glossy finish.
Add even more Okinawan flair with original Shisa and Sekkanto!
The welcome plate comes with a set of handmade mini shisa and a sekkantou. You can attach them to your favorite spot to make the piece even more unique. It’s fun to think about where to place them—on the roof, on the front porch pillars, and so on. These adorable shisa and sekkantou add a touch of Okinawan charm to your creation!
