Background of this project

The Nakagusuku Castle Ruins are not well known to tourists, even though they are one of the most well-preserved and magnificent original World Heritage sites in Okinawa.

In this project, a state-of-the-art night walk is held at the Nakagusuku Castle Ruins, which is usually open to visitors only during the daytime. By allowing visitors to experience the charms of the ruins at night, when they cannot normally visit, the project aims to disseminate the historical value and beauty of the ruins to a large number of people.

About the World Heritage Site, Nakagusuku Castle Ruins (National Historic Site, one of the 100 best castles in Japan)

The eastern cliff edge of the hill that stretches from the northwest to the south of Nakagusuku Village is a natural barrier, and is known as the best-preserved gusuku among the more than 300 gusuku in Okinawa.
The castle is a mountain castle of the renkaku style, consisting of six sections. The castle walls are piled mainly with hewn Ryukyu limestone, and are composed of beautiful curves that take advantage of the geographical conditions of the natural rock formations. The high level of architectural skill is said to be artistic, and the castle is highly regarded historically.
