The Ultimate Base Directly Connected to Tomari Port! A Hotel Stay Where You Can Enjoy Both Island Hopping and Naha’s Nightlife

Directly connected to “Tomarin Port”—the gateway to Okinawa’s outlying islands—and boasting an unbeatable location as a base for island hopping, the “South Gate Hotel Okinawa” has reopened under its new brand!

Although it’s located right in the heart of Naha, the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by an open-air atrium brimming with resort vibes—instantly boosting your travel excitement. During the day, you can set sail immediately for the “Kerama Blue” sea, and at night, you can easily enjoy Okinawan cuisine and bar-hopping on Kokusai Street—all within walking distance. This is undoubtedly the perfect base for a truly “grown-up island getaway.”

The large public bath and sauna will be open this summer! Soothe the fatigue of your travels, then recharge your energy the next morning with a satisfying all-you-can-eat buffet featuring all-you-can-add seafood bowls! We’ll give you a full taste of the appeal of this new Naha stay, where you can enjoy the best of both worlds: an active trip and relaxation at the hotel.

The Excitement Begins! Self-Check-In and the Amenity Bar

When you arrive at the hotel, the first thing to do is check in at the spacious lobby. The hotel has installed the latest self-check-in kiosks, so the process goes smoothly.

And what got me most excited was making my room key! There were several cards with illustrations to choose from, and you get to pick your favorite design yourself. You place the card you’ve chosen on a special machine and create your own room key right there. The moment you finish creating your very own key—while wondering, “Which illustration should I choose?”—is so exciting that even adults can’t help but get thrilled!

After checking in, head over to the “Amenity Bar” right next door. Pick out just the amenities you need, and then head to your room!

Stay as if you were living there! “Comfort-Type” Rooms

This time, we stayed in a “Comfort” room. When you open the door, you’ll find a “raised floor” area where you can take off your shoes and relax—it feels just like being at home, so you can stretch out your legs and unwind. From the window, you have a panoramic view of the ferries coming and going in Tomari Port, and as you wonder, “Will we be boarding one of those ships tomorrow?” your excitement for your island getaway grows even more.

A bathroom equipped with a washer-dryer and a full range of amenities

The biggest draw of this room is, without a doubt, the fully automatic washer-dryer provided right in the room! Whether you’ve been enjoying the ocean on a remote island or have sweaty clothes from a multi-night stay, everything comes out fluffy and dry with the push of a button. By the time you leave, your laundry pile will be gone, making this a godsend that dramatically reduces the amount of luggage you need to bring on your trip. The bathroom is also spotless, and when combined with the hotel’s large communal bath, it’s the perfect way to wash away the fatigue of your travels.

Tips for Staying Comfortable in Your Room

It’s how to operate the air conditioner in the hotel! It’s not the type you often see in stores—with an LCD screen and buttons—nor is it the type that comes with a remote control. Instead, there’s an “in-room thermostat” mounted on the wall. You can adjust the temperature by turning the dial at the bottom of the unit to the left or right.
Everyone, please be sure to remember this!

For a Luxurious Island Getaway! “Grand Twin Bayside”

As a special treat this time, we were even able to tour the “Grand Twin Bayside” room, which is a step above the rest!
The moment you open the door, you’re greeted by a spacious interior and bright light streaming in through the large windows. True to its name, “Bayside,” this luxurious room offers a panoramic view of the blue waters of Tomari Port and the bustling harbor. With a spacious sofa area where you can relax and chat while gazing out at the sea, the sophisticated atmosphere made it perfect for anniversaries or a slightly indulgent getaway for adults.

The bathroom consists only of a shower stall and is a simple design.

So excited since this morning! A superb breakfast at “The Sail Kitchen”

Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture: South Gate Hotel Okinawa—Directly Connected to Tomari Port—City Resort Hotel

Breakfast—one of the greatest pleasures of a hotel stay—was served at the on-site restaurant, “The Sail Kitchen.” It was absolutely fantastic and far exceeded my expectations!

An open-concept restaurant interior overlooking the harbor

The restaurant features high ceilings and an open, airy atmosphere bathed in abundant sunlight. Through the windows, you can see the calm waters of Tomari Harbor and the ships moored there, allowing you to spend your mornings in a refreshing mood, as if you were dining in the dining room of a luxury cruise ship.

A buffet featuring all-you-can-eat seafood bowls and a live kitchen

You’ll be blown away by the abundance of dishes lining the buffet table! The highlight is the “Original Seafood Rice Bowl” station, where you can pile as much tuna, salmon roe, and fresh seafood as you like onto your rice. There’s nothing quite like the sheer bliss of tucking into a heaping bowl of seafood rice first thing in the morning. There’s also a wide variety of Okinawan dishes, and with many live kitchens where chefs cook right in front of you, the atmosphere is vibrant and sure to whet your appetite.

You've Gotta Try This! An Absolutely Amazing French Toast

The “French toast” made right in the open kitchen is absolutely delicious! It’s crispy and fragrant on the outside, with a creamy, custard-like center—it’s so exquisite that the moment you take a bite, you’ll want to say, “I’ll have another!” There’s always room for something sweet. The flavor was so amazing that I’d want to stay at this hotel again just to eat this French toast.
