Even though it's Okinawa, it feels like a little slice of Hawaii. It gives you such a sense of comfort that you'll want to live here♪
We're staying in the white building. The owner is so kind!
Both: "Ah, I'd love to live in a house like this."
Maybe it's just so comfortable—it hasn't moved from the terrace at all...
You can use the pool during the summer, too! And of course, it's for your exclusive use.
I picked this up at the nearby Lawson. What do you think? Does it look the part?

If you’d rather not run into other guests, want to chat without worrying about those around you, or simply want to enjoy a quiet stay, we recommend THE GUAVA SHACK. It’s a one-group-at-a-time retreat—available for stays of two nights or more—where the owner couple has brought to life the authentic Hawaiian atmosphere they experienced firsthand.

Located in Onna Village, The Guava Shack is a Hawaiian-style hotel surrounded by tropical plants and run by a friendly couple who are always beaming with smiles. Built by the owners themselves, the hotel exudes the feel of a Hawaiian vacation home where you can enjoy doing absolutely nothing.

We heard that a Hawaii resident who stayed there for one night gave it high praise, saying, “THE GUAVA SHACK feels just like home in Hawaii,” so we decided to take a little “Hawaii getaway” right here in Okinawa!

THE GUAVA SHACK Stay Report

The Inn's Atmosphere

THE GUAVA SHACK Onna, Okinawa
If you're heading north from Naha, turn at the T-intersection near Kibogaoka Beach to enter the Kibogaoka area. THE GUAVA SHACK is located just ahead.

The owner will handle check-in at the green building shown in the previous photo. You'll be staying in this white house, which is surrounded by tropical plants.

Indoors

THE GUAVA SHACK Onna, Okinawa
This is the living room. It feels like I’m staying at a stylish friend’s house! With vintage Hawaiian art and furniture everywhere, all you need to do is put on some Hawaiian music, and you’ll instantly feel like you’re in the tropics.

On the shelves to the left and right at the back of the bed, there are books she bought in Hawaii, as well as local souvenirs on display. I guess she really relaxed. She lay down on the bed and said, “I want to stay here forever,” haha.
The kitchen is fully equipped with basic cooking utensils and tableware, such as knives, cutting boards, and pots. There was even a coffee grinder and a dripper for making coffee! I honestly found myself wishing I could have a kitchen just like this at home.

A pure white bathroom. Aesoap shampoo and conditioner with a natural scent. Eco-friendly bamboo amenities are provided on the sink. I think the hair dryer was a Dyson.

There's also a washer-dryer, so you can enjoy a Hawaiian stay that feels just like home.

Terrace

THE GUAVA SHACK Onna, Okinawa
There was a hanging chair on the terrace. She sat there for a while, just zoning out. Since there were plenty of tropical plants acting as a screen behind her, she had plenty of privacy even outdoors. There were even bananas growing on the trees.

You can also use the pool during the summer. Of course, there are no lifeguards on duty, so it’s exclusively for guests.

Meals

THE GUAVA SHACK Onna, Okinawa
Since this hotel only offers room-only stays, if you want to eat at the hotel, you’ll either have to cook for yourself or get takeout. There are convenience stores and restaurants nearby, so it’s not too inconvenient. We pretended to have breakfast with ingredients we bought at a convenience store the night before (lol). It actually started to look like a proper hotel meal, and the two of us agreed, “This place looks so good because of these dishes.”

Okibura Reviews

THE GUAVA SHACK Onna, Okinawa

"If only we had the money, we'd love to live in this house!" That was the one thing both of us agreed on. The garden, the architecture, the interior design, and the overall atmosphere—everything was wonderful.

The luxury of doing nothing; a pool you can jump into whenever you like; the soft morning sunlight when you wake up; brewing coffee while listening to the birds sing; and time spent just zoning out while sitting in a hanging chair. It was the kind of place where, even if I had plans, I wanted to stay until the very last minute before check-out!

Plus, the owners are just so nice! It’s almost blinding. Thank you so much!
