The Hotel's Atmosphere

The entrance. When I first saw it with my own eyes while it was under construction, I thought, “They’re actually building this here!” I’m pretty sure it used to be a coin-operated parking lot.

The check-in counter is right inside the entrance. The restaurant is at the back. It had just started raining heavily, but when I saw several staff members reaching out to guests to check on them, I knew right away, “This is a great hotel.”

A staff member accompanied me to my room. They even explained everything about the room—they were so kind.

Guest Rooms

I believe this room was on the 8th floor. You can see a fair bit of the city of Naha from here. The large TV on the left and the bed are diagonally across from each other, but since the TV is mounted on an adjustable arm, you can position the screen so it faces you directly while you're lying in bed.

If I try to make it look authentic, it turns out like this. She’s been saying for a while now, “Southwest would wear this outfit.” Does it look good on her? lol

I was amazed by the number of welcome drinks! Of course, there were alcoholic beverages like Orion Beer, but for us, who were about to hit the sauna, the sports drinks and sparkling water really stood out.

Facility

On the 11th floor of the hotel is an indoor pool for guests. Since you can rent floats, families with children were enjoying themselves there. As usual, she was showing off her breaststroke, which was worse than a frog’s.

At the top of the outdoor stairs leading from the pool, you'll find the rooftop sauna. The electric heater helped me work up a gentle sweat. Enjoying the sauna while taking in the view of Naha is truly special. Right next to the sauna, you can take a cold plunge!

Breakfast

The breakfast venue is also on the 11th floor. There’s a wide variety of options. It’s a buffet-style meal where you can freely choose whatever you like, from Western and Japanese cuisine to Okinawan dishes. You can even enjoy a glass of champagne first thing in the morning.

When we went, they had ikura, sea grapes, and negitoro, so you can make your own little seafood bowl.

The quality of the breakfast is simply outstanding. The texture, depth of flavor, and deliciousness of the bread perhaps best illustrate this.

My Thoughts on Okibura

I’m from the countryside, so even just coming to Naha still makes me a little nervous. But I think the hospitality of the staff and the hotel’s serene atmosphere are what made me feel so at ease. A stay here for a celebration, anniversary, or as a treat to yourself would surely make for a memorable experience.

The Pioneer of Basque Cheesecake

Oh, right. If you stay at the Southwest Grand Hotel Naha Kokusai-dori, be sure to try the Basque cheesecake. The Southwest Grand Hotel was the one that sparked the Basque cheesecake craze in Japan. It was absolutely delicious.

She realized that the roll cake—or something like that—she’d eaten in Osaka wasn’t available in Naha, so she told a staff member, in the loudest voice she’d used during her entire stay, “I want to eat that in Naha, too!”
