A Small, Well-Loved Spot on Hamahiga Island with a Local Feel

Maruyoshi Foods is a diner and deli located on Hamahiga Island, just across the Kaichu Road, that retains a traditional atmosphere. Customers seeking tempura flock to the shop nonstop, and it is beloved by everyone from locals to tourists. There is a parking lot across from the shop, making it a convenient stop during a drive.
The famous “crab and mozuku tempura” is even more generous than you’d imagine!

This time, I ordered the “Crab and Mozuku Tempura” (600 yen). At first, I thought each piece cost 600 yen, so I ordered “Two, please!”—but it turned out that 600 yen actually got me two pieces. Two plates of surprisingly large tempura pieces arrived. The thick batter, characteristic of Okinawan tempura, is well-seasoned and delicious even on its own. Combined with the rich umami of the crab, it creates a truly luxurious flavor. Far from just a light snack, it’s satisfying enough to serve as a full meal—and that’s part of its appeal.
