If you're in Okinawa, you'll want to visit "Naganu Island" at least once—a remote island that feels just like an overseas resort. It's a 20- to 30-minute one-way trip from Naha Tomari Port.
On this small island, you can see the ocean from anywhere. While preserving the natural environment, you can fully enjoy swimming and marine activities.

Let's start with making a reservation
It appears you can make online reservations on the official Nagannu Island website and other sites up to two days before your departure date. For reservations made the day before or on the day of your trip, please check by phone or in person at the ticket counter.
The weather on remote islands can change quickly, so even on the day of the trip, we won’t know what the weather will be like during the day. Let’s hope for sunny weather.

About Parking
When traveling by car, no matter which coin-operated parking lot you use, there will be some distance to walk to the building where the reception desk is located (for example, it’s 400 meters from the Tomari Pier Passenger Terminal to Tokashiki Co., Ltd.). Be sure to allow plenty of time for your trip.
Tomari Pier Underground Parking Garage
Parking capacity: 60 vehicles. Estimated cost for a day trip to Nagannu: around 1,000 yen.

Departure Point
A line gradually begins to form as people check in. When we visited Nagannu Island, we set off from around the location shown on the map below. It’s about a one-minute walk from the check-in counter.
Since we arrived early, we sat in some chairs inside a building near the boat’s departure point to cool off. Once you board the boat, it takes about 20 minutes to get there!
Landing on Nagannu Island
Even before we got off the boat, I was amazed by the blue of the ocean. On board, the other passengers were also exclaiming, “It’s so beautiful!” and “It’s so blue!”
Nagan'nu Island is an uninhabited island with an area of 196,000 m² and a length of approximately 1.7 km from east to west. The central area is designated as a public access and swimming zone. The left and right edges are off-limits for safety and environmental protection reasons.

Inflate the inner tube I brought with me!
I was ready to give up if there wasn’t any air, but there was plenty. That’s when I first noticed there was a hole in the inner tube. I borrowed some duct tape from a staff member, lol (The tape never came off, so I threw it away at home).
You can also rent items such as snorkel sets on-site.
The Beautiful Sea of Nagannu
There are jellyfish-proof nets, so it's safe even for small children. However, it gets hot in the summer, so please be careful to avoid heatstroke!

Beach House
With the plan that includes a light meal, you can exchange your ticket for food at the beach house. We went with curry and yakisoba. The taste was really nothing special. But since we were all sweaty and craving something salty, it tasted amazing. It felt just like a post-sauna meal. Plus, any meal tastes great when you’re eating it while looking out at the blue ocean.
The Coke I drank on Nagannu Island was absolutely delicious! I mean, there’s no air conditioning there. If you drink alcohol and aren’t driving back, you should definitely try a beer! You’ll feel like you’re in a soft drink commercial! You’ll probably find yourself going, “Phew!” or “Ahhh!”

I was completely satisfied with my day trip to Nagannu, even while staying in Naha
If you’re staying at a hotel in Naha and sightseeing in the surrounding area without renting a car, simply adding a day trip to Nagannu Island to your itinerary can make a big difference in how much you enjoy your trip. On the main island of Okinawa, the sea gets clearer the further north you go, but don’t forget that you can also take a ferry from Naha to the outlying islands. When you factor in rental car costs, the time spent traveling to and from distant locations, and the proximity to Naha Airport, some people will likely find this to be a great value.

Nagan'nu Island: Important Notes
・There is no wheelchair access, and there is a gap between the pier and the boat.
・Large items such as coolers and folding chairs are not allowed inside.
・Bringing food and drinks onto the island is prohibited (there is a dining terrace where you can eat).
・The areas at both ends of the island are off-limits.

Naganu Island is a remote island that’s easy to reach—it’s just a 20-minute ferry ride from Naha Tomari Port. The first time I visited, I was overwhelmed by the deep blue of the water. Needless to say, the beach is beautiful, and the white sand and crystal-clear water are truly magnificent.
It’s the perfect spot for a day trip, and its appeal lies in the fact that you can fully enjoy a resort-like atmosphere in just a short time. The prices are reasonable, too, so I think it’s the ideal spot when you want to relax and recharge. I especially recommend it to anyone who loves snorkeling or just lounging on the beach!
Also, after soaking up lots of sun and coming back to Naha completely exhausted, dinner tastes so good! lol
