The “Ryukyu Onsen Senagajima Hotel,” where we actually stayed, is located in a spot with excellent access—just about a 15-minute drive from Naha Airport—yet offers an escape from everyday life, much like a remote island resort. Our room featured an open-air bath fed directly by the natural hot spring source, with views of the East China Sea and the Naha Airport runway right before our eyes. The meals were also exquisite fusion Japanese-Ryukyu cuisine, brimming with Okinawan flair. Based on our experience, we’d like to share all the charms of this hotel with you!

Relax in a guest room that blends Japanese and Western styles

This time, I stayed in the “Japanese-Western Style Room with Private Open-Air Bath: Natural Spring Open-Air Bath / Ocean View.” It was a modern Japanese-style space with a bed placed on Ryukyu tatami mats, which had a very calming atmosphere. The bedspread featured Bingata patterns, which really brought out the Okinawan feel.

From the open-air bath on the balcony, you can see both the ocean and airplanes—it’s the perfect place to lose track of time. I still can’t forget the view at sunset, in particular. At night, soaking in the open-air bath with the sounds of the waves and airplanes serving as background music was a truly luxurious experience. The water, flowing directly from the hot spring source, felt so soothing that I could feel the fatigue from my trip gradually melting away. It was a moment I could only experience here.

The amenities were great, and I didn’t have any problems at all! Personally, I was really happy that the lounge wear was separate from the pajamas. It’s so relaxing to be able to wander around the hotel in my lounge wear. It’s the best.

A view that will captivate even those who aren't airplane enthusiasts

To be honest, I wasn't all that interested in airplanes, but seeing the moment of landing right before my eyes was truly spectacular. It was also interesting to see how the flight path changed depending on the wind direction; it felt just like watching an air show.

Take a stroll around Umikaji Terrace after checking in

Another great thing is that “Senaga Island Umikaji Terrace,” a famous tourist spot on Senaga Island, is within walking distance. It had been a while since I’d taken a leisurely stroll through Umikaji, and I was pleasantly surprised to find new photo spots and exciting attractions for tourists—even as a resident of Okinawa, I really enjoyed it! It’s also nice to wander through the cafes and souvenir shops while waiting for dinner at the hotel!

A Luxurious Resort Experience by the Pool

The infinity pool offers truly breathtaking views. Its design makes it appear to blend seamlessly with the ocean, so when you’re swimming, it feels as if you’re right in the water. The wind was calm on the day I visited, and spending time swimming leisurely in the sunshine was the ultimate way to unwind. Since you can also watch planes take off and land, you’ll never get bored while relaxing by the pool. The design is family-friendly, making it a resort-like space where the whole family can enjoy themselves. They even offer free rental of swim rings!

A Lavish Dinner Featuring Okinawan Ingredients

For dinner, we enjoyed the “Kuwatchi Set Menu,” a multi-course meal. The dishes—featuring Japanese Black Wagyu beef tenderloin, spiny lobster, and other ingredients—truly highlighted the quality of the ingredients. Served in the meticulous Japanese style typical of a traditional ryokan, each dish left a lasting impression. The restaurant is right next to the pool, so you can enjoy a spectacular sunset view even while you dine—another highlight of the experience.

Breakfast: The “Senaga Set,” a gentle meal for the body

Breakfast wasn’t a buffet but a traditional Japanese set meal. We could choose between white rice, Chinese congee, and regular congee; Kazunari had white rice, and Son-chan had the Chinese congee. The selection wasn’t overwhelming, but it struck the perfect balance—leaving us feeling thoroughly satisfied. Eating breakfast by the poolside with the pleasant breeze was absolutely wonderful.
