"Teachi," located in Tomigusuku City, Okinawa, opened in July 2024 as a café run by a local mango farmer.

The shop’s name, “Tīchi,” means “one” in the Okinawan dialect. It was chosen with the goal of becoming “the number one shop in Okinawa,” “the number one garden in Okinawa,” and “a place that brings people together.”

When you enter the grounds of “Teechi,” the first thing that catches your eye is the beautiful, meticulously maintained garden.

The space, where cobblestones and landscaping blend together, resembles a traditional Japanese garden, and the moment you step through the gate, you’re enveloped in a serene atmosphere that feels worlds away from everyday life. Before you even enter the store, you’ll find yourself drawn to take a stroll through this open, soothing space.

The interior is more spacious than you might imagine, featuring not only table seating but also private rooms and spacious tatami rooms. One of its biggest draws is that it’s designed so families with children can relax without feeling self-conscious.

In addition, the tatami room features a Buddhist altar with closed doors, preserving the traditional architectural culture of Okinawa. While this detail often goes unnoticed by tourists, it offers a space where visitors can subtly experience the local culture.

This time, we both ordered set meals. Each set meal includes a main dish, a choice of dessert, and a choice of drink. If you choose the soba set meal, you can select the type and portion size of your noodles! It’s a set meal that’s fun to customize!

A Gentle Reinterpretation of Local Flavors: The Nakamuduchi Soba Set Meal

An original soba dish that combines “Naka-mono-jiru,” a traditional Okinawan soup, with “Inamuduchi.” Inamuduchi is made with white miso, but I felt it had a slightly bonito-like flavor! Surprisingly, the broth is mild, mellow, and aromatic—a comforting taste. It pairs well with the curly noodles and is perfect for those looking for a hearty meal.

This set meal, which includes a matcha rare cheesecake tart (+100 yen) and Sanpin tea, lets you savor every bite right to the very end.

A New Take on Curry Soba: A Set Meal Where Sweetness and Spices Come Together in Perfect Harmony

For some reason, I sometimes just crave curry soba! The curly noodles from Terudome blend perfectly with the rich broth. The spiciness is mild, making it a flavor anyone can enjoy. For those who want it spicier, we recommend adding some Koregusu or shichimi to customize the flavor.

The set includes a rich cheesecake and a coffee float, and the portion size is generous.

Apparently, the concept is rooted in the idea of “combining Okinawa’s best shop with Okinawa’s best garden to bring customers and artists together.” Indeed, with the meticulously maintained garden, the Okinawan art in the adjoining gallery, and the dyed and woven textiles created by students, it feels as though these “connections” are subtly woven throughout the space.

At the back of the gallery, there’s also a slightly mysterious “mysterious room”—it might be fun to take a peek inside. It was a place where time flows in its own unique way, with each and every detail reflecting a deep dedication to the number “one.”
