After passing through the village and walking down a narrow path, Coral Beach suddenly opens up before you. This is a completely “natural beach” with absolutely no lifeguards, jellyfish-proof nets, or shower facilities. It offers a unique blend of nature’s raw power and beauty—something you simply can’t experience at a developed resort beach. As you walk along the water’s edge, fragments of coral make a pleasant rustling sound, and the crystal-clear sea glistens as it reflects the sunlight. It’s a luxurious setting where simply sitting on the sand and gazing at the endless horizon is enough to fill you with contentment.

Since this beach isn’t specifically designed for swimming, there are areas where the water gets deep suddenly and others with strong currents, making it unsuitable for “serious swimming” with children. However, it’s the perfect spot for splashing around in the shallows or beachcombing (collecting driftwood and other items washed ashore). Searching for beautiful seashells and interestingly shaped pieces of coral is an exciting treasure hunt for children. Since the beach is covered with coral fragments and can be painful to walk on barefoot, both adults and children must wear water shoes.

On sunny days, the color of the ocean is breathtakingly beautiful, but you’ll be exposed to Okinawa’s intense sunlight. Also, depending on the wind direction, the waves can get rough. Avoid visiting on days when the sea is rough; instead, visit from the morning through early afternoon on calm, sunny days to enjoy the best conditions, with crystal-clear water all the way to the seabed.

Rent a bicycle (an electric-assist bike is recommended) from Obama Port, ride through the village in the center of the island, and pedal toward the ocean for about 15 to 20 minutes. The route offers idyllic scenery along the way, but as you approach the beach, the path narrows, and there are some sections where you’ll enter unpaved roads that can be a bit hard to follow. It’s best to check the map on your smartphone as you go. There’s a small space near the entrance where you can park your bike, and the thrill you feel the moment you push through the foliage and emerge onto the beach is truly special.
