Located right next to the Kyoda Interchange in Nago City, “Suro-ya” is a quiet, hidden gem nestled in a residential neighborhood—a traditional Okinawan soba specialty restaurant run by a husband-and-wife team in a restored old house. Set in a traditional Okinawan home surrounded by tropical plants, you can savor a bowl of Okinawan soba made with smooth, chewy handmade noodles and carefully selected additive-free ingredients. The moment you step inside, you’ll find yourself transported to a time long past—a soothing space where even a rainy day feels pleasant. It’s the kind of place where, even if it’s your first visit, you’ll instinctively want to say, “I’m home.”

As you walk through the residential neighborhood, a charming, old wooden farmhouse surrounded by tropical plants comes into view. As soon as you step through the gate, you’re enveloped by the gentle aroma of dashi and a sense of calm, instantly washing away the fatigue of your journey.

The interior retains the warmth of wood throughout, and the old-fashioned electric fans and daily calendars give it a distinctly nostalgic feel. Children’s chairs are also provided, reflecting the shop’s family-friendly atmosphere.

This dish features hand-made noodles with just the right amount of chewiness and smoothness, perfectly complemented by a rich, aromatic bonito broth. While it delivers a robust umami flavor, the salt content is moderate, resulting in a gentle, balanced taste. The generous chunks of meat are tender, and their rich umami flavor bursts forth with every bite.

The “Juicy” dish we ordered as a side was also exquisite. The lightly sweetened seasoned rice pairs perfectly with the broth, satisfying both our stomachs and our hearts.
