Tucked away on a quiet hilltop in Uruma City, Okinawa Prefecture, is “Sakae Restaurant,” a traditional-style hideaway. Here, you can enjoy creative Okinawan cuisine made with an abundance of seasonal local ingredients, along with a selection of carefully chosen local sake and fruit wines.
This time, we enjoyed Aguu pork shabu-shabu seasoned with arsa broth and the medicinal herb “Yunnan Baiyao.” It’s the perfect spot to spend some “special treat time for adults,” savoring the seasons of Okinawa with every dish while soaking in the charm of the Ryukyu Islands of yesteryear.

The tranquility glowing on the tile roof

"Sakae Restaurant" is a sophisticated dining space created by renovating a traditional Japanese house with a striking tiled roof. The exterior exudes the charm of Ryukyuan architecture, and simply standing at the entrance immerses you in an atmosphere that brings a sense of calm.
The moment you step inside, you’ll find a sophisticated hideaway where the warmth of wood blends beautifully with Ryukyu glass and Yachimun pottery. With semi-private booths and counter seating, the atmosphere offers exceptional privacy.
Combined with its quiet location, it creates a pleasant atmosphere where it feels as if time is passing slowly.

The restaurant has a really lovely atmosphere at night, too.
By appointment only; no one under 16 is permitted.

Sakae Restaurant operates on a reservation-only basis, and reservations must be made by 1:00 PM on the day of your visit. You can make a reservation by phone or via direct message on their official Instagram account. Additionally, since guests under 16 are not permitted, it’s the ideal setting for adults who want to enjoy a quiet meal. It’s a great choice for anniversaries or dinners with loved ones. Since this time it was Son-chan’s birthday and a friend was visiting Okinawa, we made a reservation!
A Taste of the Season on a Single Plate
All of the dishes are creative creations based on Okinawan seasonal ingredients and traditional cuisine. Among them, the popular set menus are particularly worth noting.

Agú Pork Ryukyu Shabu-Shabu Course

The star of the show is “Agú pork,” known for its mellow umami and sweetness. Enjoy shabu-shabu in a special broth that combines the rich flavor of arsa with the medicinal herb “Yunnan Baiyao.” Gentle on the body and full of depth, it’s the perfect choice for a special dinner.
Furthermore, the overall menu—from appetizers and fish dishes to the rice dishes served to round out the meal—is well-balanced and highly satisfying. Since the menu reflects the changing seasons, there’s always something new to discover, no matter how many times you visit.

Okibura Reviews

I'm so happy I finally got to visit that restaurant I've been wanting to go to for ages!
Since it was Son-chan’s birthday and a friend from the mainland was visiting Okinawa, I wanted to make it a special day, so I decided to use this service.
I knew reservations were required in advance, but on the day of our visit, we suddenly decided, “Let’s go!” so I called to ask if we could make a reservation. “If shabu-shabu is okay, we can seat you,” they said, and they gladly accepted our same-day reservation.
I was very satisfied—the quiet location and the atmosphere of the traditional Japanese house made for a pleasant, relaxing dining experience!
The Aguu pork shabu-shabu features an exquisite blend of arsa broth and the aroma of herbs—a dish you can only enjoy here. With a wide selection of fruit wines and awamori, we also enjoyed pairing the meal with drinks.
It’s a sophisticated, exclusive space for adults—and it’s easy to see why it operates exclusively by reservation.
